How to Get Rid of Heartburn Naturally

Natural Remedies for Heartburn Agony

Many people are suffering from the pain and discomfort brought about by heartburn. Heartburn is also known as acid reflux, which is commonly known as acid indigestion. It is common for pregnant women to suffer from heartburn, yet the condition usually goes away after delivery. If you want to know how to get rid of heartburn, then here are a few remedies you might be interested in trying.

The first remedy that most people tend to follow is a diet rich in fiber and acidic fruits. The theory behind this is that heartburn is caused by the acids from the stomach moving up into your esophagus. By reducing the amount of acid in your system, you can reduce heartburn, or at least it will get less severe. Some foods that are good to eat include apples, celery, broccoli, garlic, green beans, peas, spinach, and Swiss chard. Avoiding citrus fruits is also good, as well as tomatoes, oranges, and kiwi fruit. Fruits that are high in citric acid should be avoided.

Another answer on how to get rid of heartburn is taking over-the-counter antacid medication. One of these medications, Tums, contains antacid which is what you would take after eating a meal containing spicy foods like chili, red pepper, or lemon. This is effective, but not very safe. Since Tums work quickly, they make you eat more, and when you do, you are likely to take a few bites before passing the indigestion fluid down your throat. This causes a burning sensation that can last up to an hour, which some people find uncomfortable enough to not eat anything during that time. Some side effects of taking antacid medication include dizziness, nausea, and faintness.

There are other remedies for heartburn such as changing your diet, exercising, and drinking plenty of water. These methods attempt to alter the stomach’s ability to digest food. Since the stomach contains acid, altering how it digests food can help reduce the amount of acid produced in your stomach, which in turn reduces the symptoms of heartburn. Exercise can help get the heart rate increased and oxygen to the stomach is increased as well. The reduction of stomach acids, and the increased production of carbon dioxide, are one way how to get rid of heartburn.

For more information on how to get rid of heartburn naturally, one place to look is your doctor. A traditional doctor will most likely prescribe antacids for relief. Antacids work by neutralizing stomach acids so they can’t be absorbed into the body, thus reducing the indigestion you feel. If the problem is chronic, or if you’ve had it too long, you may want to consider surgery to physically remove the indigestion so it no longer affects you. While these methods are very effective at curing your problem, they also have side effects that can be very dangerous.

There are natural ways to learn how to get rid of heartburn. One example of a natural treatment is a change in diet. By avoiding foods that are high in fat, acidity, and acid, and replacing them with healthier options, you can help your body to properly digest food, and eliminate unwanted stomach acids. This process can be very effective in learning how to get rid of heartburn.
