Symptoms of Gerd – Understanding What Causes Acid Reflux

By Mikael G.J.

There are a lot of people that suffer from acid reflux, but very few actually know exactly what it is or how to cure it. It is usually caused by acid backing up into your esophagus, causing an unpleasant burning sensation. Other symptoms include painful chest burning, belching, hiccups, and coughing. Some individuals even experience severe heartburn, which can be life threatening. In some cases, acid reflux can cause esophageal cancer.

Most people do not experience any symptoms of acid reflux until their middle ages. It is usually caused by a weakening of the lower esophageal sphincter, which is located right at the end of the stomach. This muscle is supposed to relax when food passes through it. However, there are a lot of factors that can weaken this muscle. These include being pregnant, lying down immediately after eating, or having poor eating habits.

If you have heartburn often, then you probably suffer from weaker esophageal muscles which makes it easier for acid reflux to happen. Another reason why people experience this kind of problem is because of the food they eat. When food gets stuck in between the teeth, acid reflux can take place. This burning sensation felt in the esophagus is caused by stomach acid backing up. This is why people experience this burning sensation in their throat, chest and behind the breastbone area. You might also feel pain and difficulty swallowing if you regularly eat spicy or crunchy foods.

If you want to stop acid reflux from happening, then there are a couple of things you can do. One way to treat it is by identifying what triggers it. For example, irregular eating, lying down immediately after eating or having too much food in your stomach can trigger a bout. By identifying what makes you experience acid reflux, then it will be easier for you to avoid doing these things. In order to strengthen your lower esophageal sphincter, there are various treatments you can use.

When you start to notice symptoms of gerd, you should consult your doctor immediately. You don’t want to leave her untreated because it could get worse and you might develop esophagitis. Your doctor will recommend you to take medication or to undergo surgery if you want to get rid of the acid reflux pain you experience. However, keep in mind that the best thing to do for both of your problems is to consult a doctor.

Acid reflux causes a burning sensation in your throat, chest and behind the breastbone. It can also cause your throat to produce excess saliva. The burning sensation is usually experienced during meals, but it can also be experienced after drinking something hot. As mentioned earlier, it is caused by acid reflux, so the next time you experience it, try to identify the causes of acid reflux so that you can avoid it from happening again.
