I have subscribed to a company called Purple Carrot and they send me 6 meals once per week. It costs about $77.00 for the six meals, or 411.00 per meal. Not too bad considering how expensive it is to go out to a restaurant. This is one of their recipes that I just loved. I would only say – Try it …You’ll Love IT. Jackfruit Tacos Recipe

By Mikael G.J.

How to Find an Acid Reflux Cure

Treatment for acid reflux focuses on reducing the amount of stomach acids reaching the esophagus. Lifestyle changes and over-the-counter medications are usually recommended as the first step. However, prescription medications are sometimes prescribed after these methods fail to provide adequate relief. Various over-the-counter medications, such as Tums(r), Maalox(r), Mylanta(r), and ranitidine, work as histamine antagonists and reduce stomach acid production.

Another fantastic approach would be trying a vegan eating plan. By eating primarily vegetables and natural proteins, you will eliminate much of the bad reactions to processed foods that cause Acid Reflux pain. It worked for me… try it today.

Ingredients

  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 2 onions
  • 2 red radishes
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 lime
  • 1 ½ tsp ground cumin
  • 3 tbsp tomato powder
  • 1 chipotle pepper in adobo
  • 8 oz jackfruit
  • 6 white corn tortillas

Instructions

  • Peel the garlic. Peel and slice thinly the onions. Thinly slice the radishes. Halve the avocado, get rid of the pit, slice the flesh into thin slices. Cut the lime into halves and juice one half. Cut the other half into wedges. Squeeze 1 tsp lime juice over the sliced avocado and throw a dash of salt on.
  • Heat a medium saucepan over medium heat with a tbsp of olive oil. Add the garlic, 1 tsp of salt and just ¼ cup of sliced onions. Cook, occasionally stirring until you see brown in places…usually 3-4 minutes. Add the cumin, tomato powder and as much of the chipotle pepper that you can stand, ¾ cup of water and whisk it all very well. Add this to the saucepan and cook, stirring often until the Salsa Roja has thickened a little…usually 5-7 minutes.
  • Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat with 1 tbsp olive oil. Add the remaining sliced onions and add a dash of salt. Cook these, stirring often until you see brown in certain places…usually 5-8 minutes. Then add ½ cup of water, reduce the heat to medium-low and cook until the caramelized onions are lightly browned…another 3-4 minutes.
  • *** Hint: Don’t clean the skillet just yet, as we’ll be using it again.
  • Add the Salsa Roja and the rest of the lime juice to a blender and blend until smooth. Taste and add salt as you see necessary.
  • ***Hint: The Salsa Roja can be left unblended if you prefer a chunkier salsa.
  • 5 – Drain the jackfruit, pat dry and tear into pieces. Add the shredded jackfruit into the skillet with the onions and turn the heat up to medium-high. Cook and toss this medley often. Do this until the jackfruit is crispy in places, usually 4-5 minutes. Add ½ cup of the Salsa Roja and cook until reduced…1-2 minutes. Transfer the crispy jackfruit and caramelized onions to a plate.
  • 6 – Rinse and dry the skillet and return to medium-high heat with 1 tbsp of olive oil. Add 3 tortillas to the skillet in a single layer. Spoon in some jackfruit and caramelized onion on one side of each tortilla and then fold the tortilla in half. Cook until crispy, usually about 1 minute on each side. Divide the tacos between plates and top them with the Salsa Roja, sliced avocado and sliced radishes. Serve with the lime wedges.
  • Bon Apetit!!!

I recently discovered Purple Carrot, a vegan meal preparation company that delivers meals to your door. I get 3 dinners that feed my wife and I…thats 6 dinners for the $70 per package plan. I cannot tell you how much I absolutely love this company and the food they deliver. I admit that I do miss beef and chicken sometimes, but I can easily add those to these meals or even take a break from Vegan eating for an evening. I suffer greatly from Acid Reflux. I have learned thru the years what foods will cause this burning… the usual offenders are bread, cakes, red wine sometimes and dark chocolate. The breads or the wheat products are the absolute worst. BUT… since I have switched to eating mostly Vegan or more of a plant based diet, my Acid reflux has all but disappeared. If this sounds interesting to you, or if you just want to try more of a plant based diet, then I Strongly recommend Purple Carrot. The food tastes great and it will help you with any Heartburn and Acid reflux issues you may be suffering thru. Here is a link that you can research the company further –> Purple Carrot Plant Based Meals.
BTW –  I am NOT being paid to promote this company… I just love them and want them to succeed. 🙂   Enjoy!

Black Bean Burrito Bowls Recipe

By Mikael G.J.

How to Find the Best Natural Acid Reflux Remedy

Although the best acid reflux remedies are often found in natural products, many people still opt for prescription drugs. Taking antacids is one solution that can be effective, but it will only temporarily control the symptoms of heartburn. It may not help you long-term and you’ll likely experience them again the next morning. Hence, it’s better to use natural remedies for acid reflux that will target the root cause of the problem. In most cases, the underlying problem is that you produce insufficient amounts of stomach acid, which delays the emptying process. The longer food stays in your stomach, the more chances of irritation.

Roasted Sweet Potatoes Recipe

By Mikael G.J.

How to Find Acid Reflux Relief

If you are suffering from the painful symptoms of acid reflux, you should look for ways to relieve your condition. The first step in finding relief from acid reflux is to change your diet. Many foods causing acid reflux can make the problem worse. To find relief from acid reflux, avoid the following: coffee, carbonated drinks, and citrus fruits. You can also try eating smaller meals more often and chewing each bite for at least 20 seconds. In addition, you should avoid overeating. Overeating causes your stomach to stretch, which in turn increases the production of gastric acid.

GERD, or acid reflux, is a common problem. About 20% of the population suffers from the symptoms of GERD at some point in their life. Symptoms of acid reflux include a choking sensation in the chest after eating, constant hiccups, and belching. In severe cases, you may experience vomiting and bloody diarrhea. Your doctor may recommend surgery to repair the valve, but many people simply need to alter their diet and start using natural remedies.

Aside from taking antacids, you can also try drinking fermented foods, like fennel and licorice. They help reduce inflammation in the esophageal lining. Similarly, avoiding caffeine and alcohol may help alleviate the symptoms of acid reflux. Carbonated beverages also increase acid, making them unsuitable for acid reflux relief. You can also reduce your intake of carbonated drinks, like soda.

Another suggestion tho is try a Vegan or Vegetarian diet. Vegetables are amazing at cutting out acid reflux. It’s the Greens! Try it…you just might like it. Here is a great Vegan recipe that works for me.

Notes

This is one of my favorite meals from Purple carrot so far. It was extremely simple to make and I loved every bite. I didn’t use the chilies as I am not a huge fan of spicy chili peppers. And I have by accident rubbed my eyes with that chili juice on my hands and have paid dearly for it. So I just left it out of the recipe… and I didn’t miss it. But you might enjoy it …so add them as you like.

Foods That Help Prevent Acid Reflux

By Mikael G.J.

salad
Natural Food is a Great Remedy for Acid Reflux

When acid reflux creates chronic bad symptoms, it’s called gastro esophageal reflux disease, or GERD for short. The most familiar symptom of GERD is heartburn pain in the lower abdomen and chest which at times feel like you are having a heart attack. Acid reflux can also cause regurgitation of acid from the stomach into the throat, and can also cause nausea and difficulty swallowing.

The primary cause of acid reflux is excessive acid production by the stomach, the esophagus and the pancreas. The stomach acid helps to produce digestive enzymes like pepsin and gastric acid, and acids from the digested food exit the body through the esophagus. In a healthy person, acid refluxes occur only rarely, usually due to inappropriate activity of the autonomic nervous system. If acid reflux is caused by an underlying disorder such as a hiatal hernia or hypothyroidism, symptoms can worsen or even be fatal. In addition to being uncomfortable, acid reflux can also damage the esophagus lining leading to scarring and other physiological conditions.

It’s not exactly clear what causes acid reflux to happen. There is strong evidence that certain foods, over-the-counter or prescription, can trigger acid reflux. Proteins, fats and carbohydrates seem to be the culprits. Certain types of medication may also play a role in acid reflux, because they interfere with the smooth functions of the lower esophageal sphincter, or LES, the muscle that controls the movement of liquids through the esophagus. These medications include asthma medications, such as corticosteroids, bronchodilators, anti-inflammatory medications, antidepressants, and calcium channel blockers.

The best way to avoid GERD is, as mentioned above, to live a healthy lifestyle. This means avoiding foods that are hard to digest, caffeine, spicy foods, fatty foods, citrus products, and alcohol. Additionally, some medications may cause acid reflux, including stomach acid blockers, anti-hnprazol, antacids, and antibiotics. Although most people experience acid reflux at one time or another, the condition can occur in as few as five of ten days. What causes acid reflux to occur varies from person to person, so it’s best to see your doctor if you think you may have GERD.

Some common triggers of acid reflux are overeating, smoking, lying down immediately after a meal, or bending over, straining to breathe, coughing, and lifting the head onto the chest. Heartburn occurs when stomach acid splashes up into the esophagus, causing pain and discomfort. If you’ve had heartburn before, you probably have other symptoms such as a sour taste in your mouth, excessive burping, a bloated feeling in your chest, hoarseness, an acidic taste in your throat, and difficulty swallowing. Heartburn usually goes away within a couple hours, although some people suffer from it for hours.

Because it is believed that what causes acid reflux is due to a weak lower esophageal sphincter, eating a few key foods can help prevent GERD, including apples, carrots, broccoli, spinach, peas, and lentils. Because what you eat can affect your acid reflux, you should also avoid spicy foods, tomato products, coffee, tea, and caffeinated beverages. Also avoid foods that are high in fat, such as fried foods, canned goods, fatty foods, and chocolate. These foods may seem tempting at first, but if you combine them with other foods that are high in acidity, it can increase the acid in your stomach and can lead to heartburn.
