
The Paleo diet is based around the Paleolithic age of man, approximately ten thousand years ago. At that time people didn’t have the fiber, grains, dairy products, etc., that they have today. It was necessary for them to get all the calories they required from these types of food sources, which is why the Paleo diet was devised.
Go Paleo, and you will eat lots of fresh fish and meat, fruits, nuts, and smaller vegetables. You can also consume: Eggs, cheese, poultry, beef, chicken, vegetables, fruits and nuts. Healthier fats, such as olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, soybean oil, sesame seed oil, canola oil, honey, and herbal teas. And of course, Paleo friendly grains such as flaxseed, quinoa, wheat, oats, barley, rice, and cornmeal.
When creating your paleo diet food list, be sure to include fresh vegetables as part of each meal. You will want to include some kind of a protein, such as nuts or legumes. You may also want to add some complex carbs at the end of the day, such as brown rice. This will keep you satisfied all day long.
Some paleo foods are higher in fat than others, but these paleo foods are much healthier than what we now think of as being healthy. For example, you can have avocado instead of avocado oil. Avocado has even been shown to protect against heart disease, something that is not known yet about other saturated fats that are commonly found in many foods today. So, while it’s true that paleo foods contain less saturated fats, this does not mean that you should totally eliminate them from your diet.
Robb Wolf also teaches his followers the best paleo diet food list that they should follow. While he doesn’t go as far as saying that you shouldn’t eat meat at all, he does say that the kinds of meats you should be eating our grass-fed beef, wild game, fish, chicken, turkey, and red meat (only red meat). This is because the kinds of meats eaten by our caveman ancestors were much different than the kinds of meats that are widely fed today. The reason that he recommends grass-fed beef and wild game is because the meat would have been prepared in much the same way back then as it would be today if it were to be eaten out at a restaurant. The kind of wild game that he recommends is elk, so if you haven’t been able to get past deer, moose, bear, or buffalo, this may be the diet for you.
A big part of Paleo is avoiding processed foods as much as possible, which means that Paleo meal plans often have very little in the way of refined sugars, grains, potatoes, or any of the other things that contribute to keeping your blood sugar high after meals. So what’s the best paleo food? The paleo diet pyramid for example contains mostly fresh fruit and vegetables in small quantities. Grains such as millet, sorghum, quinoa, amaranth seed, buckwheat, etc. are also very beneficial when used in their natural state as they slow down the absorption of carbohydrates into the bloodstream.
