By Mika

What is heartburn chest pain? Have you ever experienced heartburn? If you have, then you will know the pain that it brings. Heartburn is also known as acid reflux and it occurs because of the regurgitation of the stomach acids, back into the esophagus. It is a common problem among Americans, but some get severe heartburn attacks and heartburn, which may cause the throat to become swollen, chest pain and difficulty in swallowing. Hence, if you are experiencing these symptoms, see a doctor immediately for a proper diagnosis.

There are many different things that cause heartburn. The most common reason for heartburn is the food that you eat. Stay away from fried, fatty, spicy and acidic food. These types of food can trigger severe heartburn. Eating smaller meals more often can also help in controlling your heartburn and prevent it from happening too often.

Another reason for heartburn is the poor posture and bad body mechanics. Stay away from slouching, crossing your legs or lying on your back. You may also develop severe heartburn if you are riding on a bicycle, using a saddlebag, wearing a helmet with a strap that is too tight around the neck or even by having chinstraps. These may also cause the throat to become swollen and constricted and this can lead to severe heartburn.

Some people experience heartburn due to their lifestyle. For example, if you smoke cigarettes regularly, then this can increase your heartburn risk factor. Also, staying away from dairy products is a good idea. Dairy products cause the secretion of gastric acid, which can lead to severe heartburn. Also, excessive consumption of citrus fruits and juices can also result in severe heartburn.

There are some people who experience severe heartburn, even when they try to lie down. If you feel pain in your chest when lying down, you should stop doing your activity immediately. The pain will only get worse if you do not rest. However, if you are in bed and cannot lie down because of severe heartburn, then you can use a pillow to support the chest and this will help in decreasing the pain you feel.

Other ways to reduce heartburn are avoiding spicy and high-fat foods and beverages as well as smoking and alcohol. In addition, avoiding coffee is also highly recommended. Do not underestimate the power of the human heart. Rest, proper diet, exercise and regular sleep are the best ways to get relief from severe heartburn.
